After two months of winter break, I’ve finally made it to Santiago! This morning I moved into my home stay apartment in the neighborhood of Providencia. My host parents, Ivonne and Julio, have a beautiful apartment in a gated community. They have four older children who have all moved out of the apartment, leaving just the two of them to host international students each semester.
Ivonne and Julio were actually at a ceremony for their daughter (she was being named a commander in the military) when I arrived so I spent some time unpacking my things and chatting with their friend and neighbor, Sandra, who is also hosting a student from IES.
The apartment is very close to the center where I’ll be taking most of my classes, so I’ll be able to walk instead of taking the bus. It’s a bit farther from the other college campuses which might be tricky if I end up taking classes there, but the bus and metro systems are pretty well set up in Santiago.
It’s been a pretty uneventful afternoon, mostly just unpacking and being really tired from not sleeping on the flight down here. The fun starts tomorrow when orientation at IES begins!
Pictures to come!
