summer in cusco, peru
I spent July 2014 in Cusco, Peru volunteering with Manos Unidas Peru. The days were spent working with children with autism, the evenings were spent with my wonderful host family, and the weekends were spent traveling around Peru.
Adventure List
The more I think about the idea of having a “Bucket List” while abroad, the more it starts to bother me. Making such a list would mean putting added pressure on myself to mold my experience in a way that allows for less flexibility and more disappointment if I don’t get to do all the things I plan. So instead – I’ve made an adventure list! These are things that would be crossed off the bucket list if I had made one.

1. Visit the Plaza de Armas of a city after living for four months in a city with a closed Plaza de Armas [thanks, Lima]
2. Explore pre-Incan ruins in the middle of the most modern part of a city [and have 3 separate tour guides ask you if you do, in fact, want the tour in Spanish]
3. Have almost every Peruvian you extensively speak with tell you that you speak very well in Spanish
4. Make chocolate from scratch at a chocolate museum
5. Be bold – try to visit Machu Picchu without a passport (and be successful!)
6. Take a solo trip up to Sacsayhuaman – Incan ruins right outside of Cusco
