It’s March 24th, which marks the one month anniversary of my arrival in Santiago. This month has truly flown by but I also can’t believe how many awesome things I’ve had the opportunity to do in just one month. It’s been four weeks of exploring the city, meeting tons of new people, and finding beautiful hikes not too far from home. Here are some of the things I’ve been up to in the last week!
- Celebrated St. Patrick’s Day in Santiago! There are a couple of Irish bars in my neighborhood that were filled to the brim. It was odd to see so much written English and hear the bartenders speak in English!
- Took a field trip to the Museo del Carmen with my history class. It was a really cool museum connected to a church that was filled with paintings and sculptures about the influence of the church on state affairs in Latin America.
- Celebrated welcome-week concerts at my university, which were really fun. There was one at one of the smaller campuses in my neighborhood, which was much more relaxed. The second one on Friday was a lot bigger, with thousands of students coming out to the main campus to enjoy some Chilean music!
- Visited some sort of festival for children at Parque Forestal? I showed up with a couple of friends and we were surrounded by parents with young babies and other young children. A bit strange but I was definitely not complaining about being surrounded by young children who were so happy to laugh at the magicians!
- Had a few dinners at my friend Veroneque’s house with her adorable host mother Dora! She’s the sweetest older woman who has specifically invited me over a couple of times, even making me special food because she knows I don’t eat meat :) Dora also took us to visit the artisan market in Los Dominicos and explained all of the different shops to us!
