When I found out a few months ago that Lollapalooza, a popular music festival in the US, was coming to Chile while I would be here, I was really excited. Sure, I could see a lot of the artists if I went to Lolla in the US, but there’s definitely something different about being in Latin America for the festival – plus you get the added bonus of seeing Chilean and other Latin American artists! Needless to say, it was an amazing weekend spent listening to great music with some cool people.
My friend from UNC, Lisa, was my music partner for both Saturday and Sunday. We decided to stick together since cell reception was very spotty and we both wanted to see similar acts. We managed to run into a fair number of people we know throughout the weekend, but it was so nice to experience the festival with such a wonderful friend :)
Overall I can only describe the experience as “magical.” We spent the weekend being surrounded by people from all over the world, being united by great music, watching the sunset over some of the most amazing bands, and having no care in the world besides which act we would go to next. It was also really cool to hear at least half the acts there so that it was their first time in Latin America and that they were so excited to be there.
